Notre Dame Rules, Michigan Sucks. Irish. 23-17.

September 16 @ Notre Dame Stadium:
Michigan Wolverines vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
1st Quarter
No scoring.
2nd Quarter:
The Maize & Blue scored first as Chad Henne connected to Steve Breaston for a 6-yard TD pass to make it 7-0. Carl Gioia's 35-yard field goal cut the Wolverine lead to 7-3. But Garrett Rivas booted a 48-yard field goal to give UM a 10-3 advantage. But on the final play of the half Brady Quinn found Rhema McKnight for a 21-yard touchdown, tying the game at 10.
3rd Quarter:
The only score in this period came courtesy of Darius Walker, whose 39-yard touchdown catch from Quinn put ND ahead 17-10.
4th Quarter:
Fullback Munir Prince surprised the Wolverines with a 32-yard TD run, but Carl Gioia's PAT try was no good, but the Fighting Irish led 23-10. However, a last minute pass from Chad Henne to Adrian Arrington would cut the lead to 23-17. The Wolverines were unable to recover the onside kick and the Irish are 3-0 for the 1st time since 2002 with a big win over their longtime rival.
Summary:
Brady Quinn had a good game going 16-24 for 192 yards, with 2 TD's and 0 INT. John Carlson (58 yards) and Darius Walker (45) were ND's top receivers with 5 catches. Rhema McKnight (31 yards) and Marcus Freeman (12 yards) had 2 catches while Jeff Samardzija was held to just 1 catch for 39 yards. David Grimes had a catch for 12 yards to round out the receiving stats.
Darius Walker had 20 carries for 41 yards to lead ND's ground game, then there was Munir Prince (1 rush, 32 yards, 1 TD), Travis Thomas (3 carries, 15 yards), Brady Quinn (7 rushes, 11 yards) and James Aldridge (2 runs for 5 yards).
Defensively, the Irish allowed 292 passing yards by Chad Henne (109 of them connected to Adrian Arrington), but they sacked him 5 times and picked him off 3 times (Trevor Laws was the recipient of two Henne passes). The Irish held Mike Hart to just 52 yards on 18 rushes, and halted UM to just 23 yards on the ground.
So the Fighting Irish are 3-and-0, and next Saturday night, the Domers travel to Spartan Stadium in East Lansing to face Michigan State.
Go Irish, beat Spartans!

Here come the Irish...the 2006 season revisited!

Today I received a tabletop football board game in the mail called The College Game. I always wanted to replay a season with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish,my favorite college football team, and now I got my chance. In my 2006 Notre Dame replay,I will replay every game the Irish played in,from the opening game of the season at Georgia Tech all the way to the final regular season game against USC. Can Brady Quinn put up better numbers in this replay than in real life? Is Darius Walker just as good with a few rolls of the dice as he was on the field? Can the Weis Guys finally bring a 12th National Championship to Touchdown Jesus? Well,my friend across Notre Dame Nation,we will all find out together. And as a bonus,I will also put the spotlight a player I created, his name is Philip Fitzpatrick, who is a defensive tackle for the team and is expected to be one of the best tight ends in all of college football. It's going to be a great project, and I have more tabletop sports board game replays that I will be replaying that I will blog about in the days to come. The season (and the road to the BCS championship in Arizona) begins September 2,2006 in Atlanta against Georgia Tech, and all I have to say is:Play like a champion today! Go Irish!
